Meet Colin
Made by hand. Made to bring joy.
I'm Colin, the founder and woodworker behind CG Woodworks. I'm a Marin County native, husband, dad, and longtime woodworking enthusiast who believes there's something pretty special about creating something with your own two hands that brings someone else joy.
I was born and raised in Marin County, attended Redwood High School, and met my wife, Mira, while we were both playing varsity soccer. I didn't venture too far for college, heading to Santa Clara University, and eventually made my way back home to Marin, where we're now raising our daughter, Niyah.
From Websites to Sawdust
With a background in construction and a love for working with my hands, I've always enjoyed building things, solving problems, and seeing the results of a hard day's work.
I started woodworking in 2020 while working full-time in digital marketing. What began as a creative outlet quickly became a passion. Woodworking gave me a chance to step away from the screen, reconnect with nature, spend time outdoors, and create something tangible.
One of my earliest projects was a cutting board for my mom, made from a beautiful slab of wood. I loved the process of transforming raw material into something functional, but what really stayed with me was seeing how delighted she was to receive it.
That experience captured what I love most about woodworking: combining creativity, craftsmanship, and problem-solving to make something that brings someone else joy.
Over the next several years, I continued honing my craft, building custom pieces for our home, family, friends, and community. After spending much of my professional career in digital marketing, eventually becoming a Senior Director in SEO, I decided to trade websites for sawdust and turn my passion into my full-time business.
Rooted in Marin. Built for You.
Today, through CG Woodworks, I create custom pieces that bring together thoughtful design, craftsmanship, and everyday functionality.
From dining tables and benches to outdoor furniture, kids' furniture, built-ins, and one-of-a-kind projects, I love working with people to bring their ideas to life.
To me, the best part of woodworking isn't just making something beautiful. It's knowing that something I've created will become part of someone's everyday life, whether that's a dining table where family and friends gather, a backyard bench, or a cutting board that's used for years to come.
As someone who grew up in Marin and is now raising a family here, there's something especially rewarding about creating pieces for the people and places that make this community home.
A True Family Business
CG Woodworks is a family affair. My wife, Mira, wears just about every hat outside the workshop, from business development and sales to marketing and social media. And our daughter, Niyah, has already taken on the very important role of woodworking apprentice (and occasional quality-control inspector).
We're proud to be a small, locally owned business, creating pieces with care, purpose, and a whole lot of heart.
